To all members,
On Friday 18th October 2013, ASIAC and APANSW merged after a vote at the Special General Meeting.
We have been moving towards this merger for several months in order to provide better services to members and to speak with one voice on matters of policy. ASIAC will now be known as the Adoption and Permanent Care Association of NSW although the name ASIAC is to be retained for the Overseas Aid Fund.
The local adoption and permanent care families, all of whom are now members, will form a new group within the association with their own information officer. At the conclusion of the meeting, members from both associations combined to vote in a new committee and set goals for the upcoming year. The new committee is made up of a mix of members from both associations, with Rachael Brown (formerly APA president) becoming president of the merged association - more details of the new committee will be emailed shortly.
During this meeting there was discussion about National Adoption Awareness Week 10th-17th November. At this stage in NSW the only organised event is the lecture by Dr Karyn Purvis on Monday 11th in Sydney. In light of this, the committee has decided to bring the APANSW Bi-Annual Picnic & Xmas Party forward one week to mark the end of National Adoption Awareness Week 2013. All members are invited to attend but please note the RSVP date of 27 October 2013.
It is a good, first opportunity for members of both former associations to meet and share experiences and information. A photographer has been organised for fundraising purposes (should you wish to have your family photographed please see attached details). Over the next few weeks all the necessary changes will be made to put into effect the merger, initially changes to the website and to contact details. I will keep you informed of changes as they occur. Please refer any questions to me for the time being. Kind Regards,
